In a classroom in Tanzania.

Board Director & Secretary

Cricket Player
My cricket playing background is quite varied. I began my Premier cricket club career in Melbourne with Fitzroy and Melbourne University, and played for Port Adelaide and Adelaide University in South Australia. I was a member of the South Australian Shield squad, captain of Adelaide University and Australian Universities XI. I also played and coached professionally in Darwin, England, and the Netherlands

Coach
I am a Level 3 coach, having completed my qualifications in the 1981 as part of the first set of formally qualified cricket coaches. My coaching mentors were Frank Tyson – England opening bowler and Director of Coaching at the Victorian Cricket Association, Chester Bennett, former coach and teacher at Prince Alfred College, as well as AUCC coach; and former Australian Women’s International coach, John Harmer.

I have extensive coaching experience at club, representative and international level. In 1993 I was coach of the Dutch Women’s National team. I was also the creator and co-author of the Level 1 coaching course and manual for the Dutch Cricket Board (the KNCB). I was also assistant coach of the Australian Women’s National team from 1996 until 1999, and coach of the Australian Women’s Second XI. I have also been the National Coach and Director of Coaching of the Malaysian National Cricket team in 2003. I am currently the Specialist coach at AUCC with a particular emphasis on the High-Performance squad and the Women’s programme. I have coached in Australia, the Netherlands, Malaysia and England.

Teacher
Other than cricket, my profession has been teaching with a particular focus on English. As well as a Diploma in Education I have a Bachelor of Arts double degree in Literature and Psychology. I qualified as a teacher in 1985.

When I was a teacher at Pembroke School (Adelaide, South Australia) my co-curricular responsibilities have been: Cricket co-ordinator, Girls Hockey co-ordinator, Primary A AFL Football manager, Second and Third Eighteen football coach and Fencing co-ordinator. I was also Head of Senior School English for 15 years.

Philanthropy
I must put the classroom photograph into context! I am founding Vice President of an NGO called Tanzeed and in 2016 we built a Primary School for Maasai children in Northern Tanzania. Before then, the children walked 24 kilometres a day to and from the nearest school. Currently we have just over 350 students, 15 teachers and ancillary staff for 7 classes. The community is amazingly isolated but it is thriving and we are growing. Our school ranked in the top 3% of National Examination results in 2020! I have visited them many times and it is a fascinating experience. There is much to learn from that community’s positive outlook, sense of joy, and resilience.
